“His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire” (2 Peter 1:3).
Who Are We In Christ–Really?
So, exactly who are we? Are we the products of our old sin nature and the lies we have been conditioned to believe about ourselves; or are we new creations in Christ Jesus, as He has told us in His Word?
How long have we been trying and trying to change ourselves into the new creations in Christ Jesus?
How many seminars, Bible studies, sermons, books, counselors have we tried in an attempt to change ourselves, to find comfort and relief, to stop doing what we are doing, to stop this cycle of defeat?
Aren’t we just tired of living a defeated Christian life?
Get a Life!
Please, get a life. Get His life!
If Christ is in you, and you are in Christ—you have been given exactly what the passage above says you have—not what you will have one day, but what He gave you the moment you asked Him into your life.
May I suggest that you hand-write this verse and as you write it, absorb every word of it and understand that this is truth. And then write it out again, using your own name, as though He were speaking this word directly to you—because He is.
His divine power has given us everything we need to live the life. When we state out loud to Him, “I want to know YOU!” He says, “You can know me. I want you to know me. Please stop trying to change for me—I have given you my own glory and excellence. I have granted you my divine power (supernatural power); the same power that raised Me from the dead, and I have given you My precious and very great promises. I have made you a partaker of My divine nature! It is My divine nature in you that lives through you and enables you to escape from the corruption that is in the world.”
Stop Trying to Live the Christian Life!
There was a SNL parody of an old Bob Newhart show in which Newhart played the role of a psychologist. I don’t know why, but it comes to mind here. In the parody, Bob is meeting with a client and as the patient is tearfully relating all the things wrong in his life, how depressed he was, Bob would say “Well then Stop It! Just Stop It!” It was hilarious. I can see myself in years gone by going to God and complaining about my failures to live the Christian life and God saying “Well, just stop it!”
Here is the truth—I cannot live the Christian life, and neither can you.
Only Jesus Christ can live it. The only thing we can do is to let Him!
Only when we are exhausted from trying to live the life can He come to us in His everlasting love, mercy, kindness, forgiveness and whisper into our hearts “Child, I have given you everything you will ever need to live this life—the life is ME, living out from you. With Me living in your Spirit, you have my divine power operating from within you. Do you understand that this divine power is the same power that raised Me from the dead? Do you understand that I have given you My glory and excellence? Do you get it that I have made you a partaker of My own divine nature? Child, believe this, let me have full reign in your life. If you couldn’t change enough to save yourself, what makes you think you can change yourself enough to please me now? I am already pleased with you. I have given you every spiritual blessing in heavenly places. I have adopted you because it pleased me.”
When I was struggling with my husband’s dementia, feeling as if I was the one who had lost my mental faculties, feeling all alone, confused and abandoned, one restless night I cried out to Jesus that I was not going to be able to do this thing, I didn’t have what it took. I “couldn’t take any more!” He began to recite passage after passage of scripture that I had memorized over the years into my Spirit. It was like a music video of the promises of the Bible playing before my eyes, and every passage was like a “C” note on a piano—resonating with my spirit, vibrating in a symphony causing my heart to soar and sing. He was singing over me (“He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing” Zephaniah 3: 17b).
The following morning I asked Him to bring back to my memory the verses, and He did. I wrote them all out, by hand, and then typed them into a document which I called “My Inheritance in Christ” and which I carried around with me and read with thanksgiving and praise to Him. He changed me in that process from a glass half empty thinker into a cup overflowing.
I will list just a couple of these scriptures here, and if you would like to download the entire document, please visit my website: www.intothemistbook.com/blog. Under the blog menu you will find the document “What Is My Inheritance In Christ?”

My Personal Statement of Faith on which I Stand
It has been rightly said that the only weapon the enemy has is the weapon of the lie. His battle is only effectual as long as he can repeat the lie again and again until it sounds like the truth. Our weapon against the lie is the Truth of the Word of God. The Bible tells us to “Stand Therefore” armed with all of the Spiritual armor of Jesus Christ. The following is simply a declaration of the Truth. State it aloud and stand therefore.
- John 1:12: Thank You Jesus that I have been granted power to become the child of God.
- John 6:32: Thank You Jesus that you are my heavenly bread, my spiritual food.
- John 7:38: Thank You Jesus that out of my heart will flow rivers of living water.
- John 8:12: Thank You Jesus that I now walk in the light; I no longer walk in darkness.
- John 10:27-29 : Thank You Jesus that I, as Your sheep hear Your voice; no one can ever snatch me out of Your hand.
- John 11:26: Thank You Jesus that in You I will never die.
- John 14:1-6: Thank You Jesus that you have gone to prepare a place for me and that where You are, I will be with You. Thank You that You are the way, the truth and the life, there is no other way, truth or life but in You.
- John 14:23 Thank You Jesus that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit have come to me and make their abode in me.
